Barcelona
Barcelona Restaurant and Wine Bar is an award-winning Spanish tapas restaurant group located throughout Connecticut from the greater New York region to West Hartford and New Haven. Barcelona was begun in 1995 by Sasa Mahr-Batuz, based on his memories of years of living in Spain and Portugal, and Andy Pforzheimer, based on his 20 years as a chef at world-famous restaurants in France, California and New York.
Barcelona is listed in Zagat’s “America’s Top Restaurants,” and regularly wins in the Appetizers and Wine categories in Connecticut Magazine’s annual “Best Of” competition. The wine list, now run by a full time Wine Director, is a Wine Spectator Award winner, and features 40 different wines by the glass and vintage rarities like Vega Sicilia and Janus.
The original Barcelona, located in South Norwalk, has grown from a tiny tapas bar seating 30 to a 140-seat restaurant with two sophisticated, beautiful dining rooms and an outdoor patio. The original 40-foot-long, hand-carved walnut bar is still there, as are the young and young-at-heart who populate South Norwalk in the evenings. SoNo Barcelona showcases the old brick and raw steel of the former factory building it inhabits. It’s a touch of SoHo in SoNo, with the food and flavors of the Ramblas.

Strada 18
Owner, David Raymer, was inspired by a truck stop in Italy equipped with a “wood burning oven, great food, and wine.” David was a long time professional chef in New York City, and had a dream of creating a casual pizza place with “high quality ingredients and fine wine.” He opened Strada 18 with wine enthusiast Steven Semaya and sous chef Luciano Ramirez. The name refers to a road that starts in Campagne, South of Naples (the pizza capital of the world) and ends in the tip of the boot.

O’Neill’s Pub & Restaurant
According to Fairfield County Weekly, “There’s a lot to be said for well-thought out grub from the Emerald Isle. [O'Neills] is a true restaurant and pub in the classic sense, not some confused sports bar with a shamrock or two in the o’window. The bartenders can pour a Guinness with a head thick enough to think invading Iran’s a good idea, the kitchen offers not one, not two, but three different pies (Shepherd’s, Beef & Guinness and Fisherman’s) and it may be the only respectable watering hole where you can throw steel-tipped darts while munching on golden fried brie. When you need an escape hatch from the overheated SoNo club scene, can’t go o’wrong at O’Neill’s.”

Coromandel
According to Fairfield County Weekly, “Coromandel has been the highest-rated Indian in the state since opening in 2002 in Darien, and the first to receive an “Excellent” scoring from Zagat, but not until this year’s survey did it nudge its way into the top spot.”
The newest location is now open in South Norwalk.

Habana
According to Fairfield County Weekly, “Habana earns a first-place designation as Best Caribbean Restaurant from the readers to go with its prize for Best Mojitos. Expect a range of oyster choices, a Cuban black bean soup, empanadas, coconut calamari and, of course, plaintains. Those varying menu choices help explain why Habana is perhaps best known as a training ground for area chefs who go on to open their own Latin-fusion restaurants.”
